Reading into costumes & tattoos

What does it mean when grown men dress up as game characters and have wedding cakes and tattoos with game themes? Here’s my guess: it means either that gaming has become such a big cultural thing that people expect others to know the references, or, maybe even better for the game community, that people have enjoyed the experiences they’ve had through their games so much that they feel the need to spread the word and show others too. Exciting times we are living…
Both are correct, and I would add one more reason, that I keep on noticing when talking to people passionate about games and cartoons. Each of us, even if without clearly knowing it, has a deep wish to be in one way or another, even if for just a day, hour or even for a few minutes, a hero. And because games are usually focused on a central figure who has to follow a path or do something to accomplish a certain goal, then we easily become influenced by those characters, who seem to have all the powers that we humans don`t. And these powers are really and rightfully dignified to be desired when they are used for good purposes. Saving lives, redeeming people, sacrifice and fight, and always choosing the virtuous way. And even the simple fact that game protagonists always have to follow a goal, may seem a gerat achievemnt for us people who don`t know clearly what goals to follow or what is our purpose for doing something. Humorous or not,, every time when we play a game with a main figure as hero, we tend to wish for being heroes ourselves. From here to dressing up like Super Mario Bros is just a whiiiiiiini little step left :)))))
