Seems like only yesterday that PS3 was being criticized for high price because of forcing consumers to swallow Bluray (wait… it was yesterday!)… and now it seems like MS might be deciding that being able to sell a console also as a HD movie player is a good idea after all… at least next year or so… or at least so the rumour goes. Might be a sensible thought since i’ve seen not only people on forums but even articles on how people think a Bluray player is starting to add real value to a console.

My worries however are: now it’s an extension, optional, so game makers aren’t making games on hddvd but for the default drive. But what if once it becomes builtin some companies start releasing on HD DVD? What do people who’ve got a xbox360 in the first 3 years do ? Since that’s the bulk of the install base I don’t think game companies will do it… still… a scary thought nonetheless.
