Want to gift and receive a game for Christmas aand make friends in the process?  Just leave a comment in this thread and a secret Santa will be randomly assigned to you while you will be randomly assigned to a lucky gamer/gamerette

Wuuppeee!!! Christmas gifting time is here agaaaain! Let the paaarty beegiiiin!!!

What?

On this magical occasion we shall continue our proud tradition, come wind or snow (we hope)! I’m starting to build a list of people who are interested in joining. On the 25th I will use this list to randomly extract (out of something christmasy, like a hat or something) everybody’s Secret Artsy Santa. Then I will contact the people on the list with info to their respective giftee.

The nitty gritty

For specifics I would propose a low budget Steam game (thousands of games at <10€. It’s more about the fun and the gesture than anything else). I propose Steam ’cause it’s the most hassle free and it’s digital instant delivery makes it convenient, plus I know quite a couple of us have an account lying around somewhere. However Good Old Games (gog.com) also has fantastic games at fantastic prices (and amazing sales) and so do other networks, so we’ve got even more options. Plenty of choices & probably a ton of fab holiday deals on fantastic games are guaranteed :D

Also if you just want to research what people might like now we have a steam group: steamcommunity.com/groups/artsygamer  and from it you can add friends and see their wishlist, in case you’re temporarily out of ideas, plus friending them now is not just nice but also a good preparation for when the actual gifting will happen.

Why would I do it?

Well… for the huge joy of giving, of course! Imagine you get to browse through a ton of games, remembering the ones you liked most, and share one with somebody, spreading the joy, making the world a better place! As an incredible added bonus you will also get to have a cool surprise waiting for you to unwrap. Even if you’ve played the game before it will be super fun to get it, knowing that somebody else (and you get to wonder who) reaaaallly enjoyed that game and thought it was special enough to share. It probably meant a LOT in their life… it’s magical to share that!

I want in! How?

Well, just leave a comment, gimme a private message (top menu), email, or facebook or even contact form… the popular quickie favorite: you could just leave a comment here if the email you’re registered with is the one you’ll want to be receiving your surprise on. Name + email … and that’s all :D

Wuuppeee!!! Christmas gifting time is here agaaaain! Let the paaarty beegiiiin!!!

What?

Okay, so here’s the lowdown: ArtsyGamer.com is only half about cool games with artistic values, the other half is about the fantastic community and friendships we’re building here, gathering special peoplez, we are. So, here’s the deal: this shall be Artsygamer’s 8th Christmas, and on this magical occasion we shall continue our proud tradition! An awesome one! I’m starting to build a list of people who are interested in joining. On the 23rd I will use this list to randomly extract (out of something christmasy, like a hat or something) everybody’s Secret Artsy Santa (SASsy, n’est-ce pas ?). Then I will contact the people on the list with their respective giftee. On Christmas night we all send the gifts and we can then discuss them in great excitement the next day :D.

The nitty gritty

For specifics I would propose a low budget Steam game (at the time of writing this there’s 2014 games at <5€ and 4571 games at <10€. It’s more about the fun and the gesture than anything else). I propose Steam ’cause it’s the most hassle free as far as I know and it’s digital instant delivery makes it convenient, plus I bet quite a couple of us have an account lying around somewhere, however Good Old Games (gog.com) also has fantastic games at fantastic prices (and amazing sales) and so do other networks, so we’ve got even more options. Plenty of choices & probably a ton of fab holiday deals on fantastic games are guaranteed :D As an extra bonus, for those of us looking to give a great gift at a great price they made it even easier for us santa types: it used to be a bit tricky to buy a gift on sale and only give it on a date, now they’ve simplified that for us, so any weekend, midweek, daily or Christmas sale you see from now on is good game!

Also if you just want to research what people might like now we have a steam group called Artsygamer.com and from it you can add friends and see their wishlist, in case you’re temporarily out of ideas, plus friending them now is not just nice but also a good preparation for when the actual gifting will happen.

Artsygamer Gifting Event #1

VN:F [1.9.22_1171]
Rating: 5.0/5 (5 votes cast)

Expires: 11pm, 5th December

Hello artsy gamers and artsy gamerettes! Hey, did you know it’s December? Season of the gifts is here! And since we couldn’t wait any longer until this year’s Artsy Secret Santa:

Presenting: the first artsygamer.com group gift event! For this solemn occasion I propose, the game Psychonauts. Have funny with this funny, original, crazy, adventurous travel through colorful cartoony minds… don’t just try, BE a psychonaut!
To enter go to: http://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/CvoMR/psychonauts

For those new to Steamgifts, the way it works is that at the expiration of the time a winner is randomly chosen from the entries. More detailed explanation in an older post.
You can only see that page if you’re a part of the Artsygamer steam group. If you’re not yet just leave a comment saying so and we’ll add you. Hurry, the random winner is drawn in 2 days. If for some reason Steamgifts doesn’t realize you’re part of the Artsygamer group it may need to resync your Steam account. To force it to do it right now go to http://www.steamgifts.com/sync and click on Force Sync (useful in case you just joined the group as Steamgifts seems to only update accounts with Steam every couple of days).
Any other questions or problems please pose them in the comments and we’ll fix it soon. Have fun and good luck!

Changing your avatar

I see this is a recurring question so I decided to write a short post about how to do it:

1. Go to gravatar.com
2. Register an account there using the same email address
3. Add/change your avatar there

The important thing, as you may have guessed, is that you use the same email address you used for your account on artsygamer.com. I believe gravatar is a good solution because now your avatar can be independent of your accounts and you can reuse your avatar on multiple sites. I’m hoping that you too, like me, will now be pleasantly surprised when you’ll just want to leave a small comment/thank you on a site you’ve never visited before to find out that your comment will no longer be a nameless generic one but full of the personality of your avatar.
Note: in my test it took almost 5 minutes from the photo add/change until the changes were propagated over the internetz.
Note 2: if you already have one but like changing your avatar often and don’t feel like remembering stuff, I’ve just discovered that you can somply hover your mouse cursor above your avatar on the right sidebar and you will be offered a link to your profile there.

———————
Other Artsygamer news: I’m happy to announce that finally after years of wishing for it and not knowing how to do it tonight I was able to add the site logo to the banner and some small design tweaks in that area. Hope everybody likes it.

Sorry everybody, I know some of you feel strongly about this, but I’m thinking of changing the rule. I so wanted to have anybody easily post, but it turns out I’m wasting daily way too much time going through pages and pages of spam comments, so I will give it a try this way. Sorry for the inconvenience, but I have to try something, otherwise I’m afraid I’d give up on moderating the website because it took too much time. If this doesn’t change anything or maybe at some point in the future I’ll try putting it back so that anybody can very easily post, but as it is one has to first login and only then post. Hope this fixes the spam.

Sorry about the changes… I really honestly thought I could do it without stopping but it’s a pretty big daily commitment… thank you so much for your support and understanding! See you soon! until then other artsyGamer activities continue as usual, forum, messaging, article writing and of course especially the secret santas   are at work :D

The extraction from the magic santa hat has been done and the randomly assigned Secret Santas have been each notified. You (those who got into the party) should have each gotten an email with the person you are preparing a gift for and so has the person who is preparing the gift for you! Looking forward to Christmas morning and hearing what everybody got! :D
