Shadow of the colossus tech tricks

I’ve often been in awe how the "ancient" hardware of the ps2 was able to make amazing games work with features where on the PC it required "future hardware"/very expensive cutting edge ones: here are some tricks explained in a reasonably understandable language:

The Making Of "Shadow Of The Colossus"

Honestly, if it wasn’t for the gameplay which i don’t like that much (i prolly would’ve gotten stuck not finding the red ladder) I would have a hard time believin it isn’t a video/rendering… wow! And I love the huge number of scripted moments… just think, a couple of years from now these graphics will be the norm, or even "the old nostalgic look" … coool! hope to get to live them grow old/standard

Wow! i’m in shock and delight, not only did i think this was a MMO so off my radar, but i never expected open world, choices… this may just be my most anticipated game for the year (hoping Prototype will come out nice with choices and not just fighting too…)

Drakan: The Ancients’ Gates

I think this one’s a hidden gem… just like the original game passed under the radars. Actually i never knew there was a sequel until i think last year (i had played the original on the PC in times when i had not yet experienced the love of consoles), when i played it with surprising excitement despite my general dissapointment in games. Though the story is liniar it felt quite free in unexplainable ways, possibly due to the somewhat open world. Either way, i finished it, which to me says a lot, and it gave me a quite pleasant exploratory experience.

Star Wars: The Old Republic: Diverse Worlds

Exciting that so much time and energy is spent in creating these huge worlds… too bad I prolly won’t explore them because it’s a MMO (too much work for too little artwork, by it’s nature it’s meant to always make you work to see it all, while with a singleplayer you know it wants you to see everything)… on the other hand i’m way too deep in Star Wars already because of all the books and i would much rather see something new

World of Goo Soundtrack

Let’s say you missed my rants on how fabulous WoG is as an experience, or it’s delightful graphics and ingenious ideas, don’t miss at least the release of it’s soundtrack (free! imagine that!)… though, again… it’s 300% more powerful in context (imagine you just did the impossible tower and you’re rewarded with cloud angel songs of glory in ironic pseudo hollywood lipstick jungles)

PS: seriously though, if you know how to use a mouse, give yourself a treat and at least download the demo (windows, mac, linux, you pick!) and get a taste of it’s delightfully cute glory

New Tech Allows Smaller Breasts

Funny  little ‘news’ article on the Onion news :) )

The buzz at this month’s Consumer Electronics Show was all about a new breakthrough in the field of high-resolution 3-D graphics that has made it possible to render average-sized breasts on female video game characters. "For too long, game designers have been creatively stymied by a mammary-imaging technology only capable of rendering one type of breast—a heaving pair of massive, gravity-defying, torpedo-shaped bosoms," said Warren Hood, developer of the new Vex9 graphics card, which has finally enabled video game wire-frame artists to digitally sculpt breasts as small as B-cups.
