As great as this looks this clip, instead of raising my excitement lowers it: it seems like another story driven game… one in which (from this trailer) i can’t see any options of story branching or choices… this is great for the action… but will it do anythign to show that ***I*** am playing it and not somebody else? If not, how is it better than a movie or a book?

He he, liked the comment about the blunt swords
) I’m mixed about not getting fighting games: on one side i totally don’t but i did have some enjoyment with them, but yes, i don’t see them as full games. They’re great for playing with a friend, but i have yet to see one fighting game which built on top of those mechanics a story taht made me feel immersed…

Some very cool ideas, the flight fantasy, hovering, air fights… all great… but I’m afraid this may turn out to be a comunity of programmers with not as many artists: it feels to me like a trully great technology/idea/concept but i don’t see very original/varied settings: they seem to me kinda copy pasted… still, great idea. I haven’t had the flying experience ever since Giants…

Why did i play the previous PoP games… because of the brilliant artwork…well, the new one seems to have it too: i don’t quite like the cell shaded style, i would have prefered a more realistic approach but i can see they used their concept artists, and they have adressed my big interests frustration in games (dying) and they even promise branching… so htey’ve got me at least interested… i would get excited but for the fact that i’m pretty sure that there won’t be dialogues, and choices of that type and i’m afraid even the paths will recur… but i do like they adressed the getting lost issue. Here’s to hoping it will come out great…

Always did like his keynotes because he seems to have a somewhat detached position and can give a somewhat objective view of a technical insider without (so much) marketing spin. The vid is 12 part and this is just part 8.

There goes another potential rpg…can’t say i didn’t see it coming though: a lot of mentions of combat, no mentions of exploration, choices, branching… never saw a dialogue system… but then again I am quite against hack&slashy stuff… I must say I’ve been waiting for many years for games to move past the "kill 1000 enemies" mentality… but it doesn’t seem like we’re nearly there yet… but i choose to continue to hope & select

I thought i might be attracted by this one… turns i still don’t really get the appeal of simple games…

I hate seeing variety & lack of censorship being blamed… i thin those are amazing things, but i am happy to say i think these days they can re-emerge: the internet can offer information about the things purchased AND once online distribution becomes more viable the worries about overproducing could be solved. Also I think now the market is much wider and can even suport niches… here’s to hoping the market doest not crash again… but EVEN if it did, fear not, games are too good a discovery to ever go away.

I am really quite happy it got a good review. I had fears about this one. However, as a person who’s played through just about every Civ game i’m afraid this looks way too familiar: way too similar technologies, strategies… in short, why would i play the same game YET again? I may do so someday… but i don’t see anything new. Even if it had just brought some new techs like Alpha Centauri (brilliant story!) did…
Also, since it should appeal to the more serious history oriented crowds i don’t think the sims made up languages are such a great idea. The alternative of more serious treatment with an wikipedia type feel would have been nice, but then again you are going to upset history when some ancient culture reaches world domination in space

GamesRadar.com has a very cool (& funny) article comparing the differences between the box art in Japan and US. Can’t say I fully support their conclusion/title
but it’s certainly worth a peek IMHO.
